Good sample containers are essential for good results. Based on our experience, we have made an overview of sample containers that are suitable for gas samples.
Connections
Gas cylinders should have a 1/4" Swagelok connection, or a connection that can be converted to Swagelok. Isolab has several adapters, but in case of doubt, it would be good to send an adapter together with the samples.
Other sample containers should have a septum or the possibility to connect a septum to them. Please contact us in case of doubt.
Glass septum vials for gas samples
The best way to preserve gas samples in glass septum vials, is to add a small amount of a saturated salt solution and store them upside down.
Oil samples
Oil samples can be sent in 2, 4 or 10 ml GC vials, or in tightly closed bottles. To prevent evaporation of the light components, we advice to send the vial/bottle completely filled with sample (without headspace)
