Oil Characterisation
Various (GC) analysis methods and preparation of oil fractions
Sample preparation
- Extracting (source)rock samples by Automated Solvent Extraction (ASE)
- Preparation of Saturates, Aromatics, Resin and Asphaltene fractions by SPE
- Topping of oil samples
- Perparation of n-alkane and branched/cyclyc fractions
Whole oil GC
- Integration of n-alkanes and most importand isoprenoids
- Calculation of maturity parameters like Carbon Preference Index (CPI) and Odd-to-Even-Predominance (OEP)
- Optional: integration of pseudo components
C7 GC
- GC-FID analysis of the light hydrocarbons in oil samples
- All peaks between Propane and Toluene are integrated
- Internal standard for comparisson of concentrations
- Maturity parameters are calculated according to Mango (1994), Thompson (1983) and Halpern (1995)
SARA analysis
Analysis of Saturate, Aromatic, Resin and Asphaltene groups in crude oil samples or rock extracts by TLC-FID (Iatroscan)
Next Step: Isotopic Analysis
Following compositional analysis, Isolab offers full stable isotope measurements including carbon and hydrogen, isotopes (bulk and compound-specific).
